Tammy Borden is a professional copywriter turned novelist, compelled to share the remarkable true story of her mother's life growing up under the Nazi regime. Through the years, Tammy recorded her mother’s life experiences and wove them into a compelling narrative of love, loss, strength, and resistance. Her novel, Waltraud: A True Story of Growing Up in Nazi Germany, represents a missing piece of World War II history—an average German girl's perspective—and demonstrates the resilience of the human spirit. Learn more at tammyborden.com.
Tammy will share about the writing journey and what inspired the novel. Since it is based on Tammy's mother's real-life experiences, she will share about how she came to learn the stories, and the particular story that convinced her that she needed to write the book.
Tammy will also talk about what's happened since publishing, including a pretty remarkable development of how her mom's story brought closure to a family an ocean away. Additionally, she will talk a bit about how there are few stories written from the German perspective of WWII and how many today are unaware of the oppression and cruelty the Nazis inflicted on their own people. Sadly, some choose to label entire people groups into one box (i.e., not all Germans embraced Nazi ideologies) and we still have much to learn. No worries, though, Tammy will avoid political themes or insinuations with a 10-foot pole! Finally, she will share the importance of sharing your own story and asking others, especially older generations, to share theirs. Sadly, so many remarkable stories are being lost, not just from WWII but from the early 20th century in general.
After the talk Tammy will follow up with a Q&A time.
